Marriage Penalty and Health Insurance

August 30th, 2010

Please say it is not so! Is it possible there is a marriage penalty tucked away in The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act? It is fairly obvious when you take a closer look at the health insurance bill. On average the well hidden and little discussed marriage penalty will ultimately cost we the people with a marital status two thousand dollars or more per annual health insurance policy than it will cost a single male and female.

Maybe we would all be better off to get divorced and still continue to live together under the same roof. This is exactly what occurs with our senior citizens so they can continue to collect on their major benefits.

It is really sad when your parents reach sixty-five and must go through the motion of being divorced in order for both of them to be eligible to collect their social security benefits and health care. Why does the government go out of its way to punish married people? However, this is nothing new and now it seems the government has buried the increase of expenses into the health insurance reform bill.

This health insurance bill is no different from anything else, like taxation. How many times during this health insurance debate have you heard the Congress talk about taxation? Did this not continue through the Presidential debates?

It is also stated in the health insurance bill explaining how those individuals with an annual income of two hundred thousand dollars or couples with an annual combined income of two hundred fifty thousand dollars will remain unharmed and not liable to higher taxation.

It was pointed out during one of the town hall meetings it was asked if it is two hundred thousand dollars for a single individual, why is it not four hundred thousand dollars for a married couple. The same is now going to apply to the new health insurance bill as it slowly is introduced to us the people in small increments.

What is becoming very interesting lately is how everything is now being based on an annual salary of twenty-five thousand dollars. This has been repeated a number of times of late during the discussions regarding the passage of the health insurance reform and sends a very chilling message.

If after the health insurance reform is put into place a few years from now, will there also be a shift in salaries across the land? Is an annual income of twenty-five thousand dollars going to be the norm?

School Health Insurance

August 27th, 2010

Many parents are realizing they must enroll their child or children in the health insurance plan offered through the school for the added protection of their child or children. Unlike years ago, the children today very active in school activities, especially sports related activities. This requires additional health insurance protection in the event of an accident either on the field or off the field.

The parent’s primary affordable health insurance will be the issue of choice when first submitting a health insurance claim, but the school low cost health insurance will pick up the difference from the primary health insurance policy that remains unpaid. This alone will save parents thousands of dollars with out of pocket expenses.

Most of the children who are enrolled in the school’s low cost health insurance plan will afford their children up to five thousand dollars worth of accident coverage. This sure would have come in handy a few years ago when a little boy fell off the school swing and broke his wrist. His parent’s were devastated when they received a bill for a few thousand dollars and they were responsible for thirty-five percent of the health insurance cost.

School health insurance in the higher level increases accordingly to the tune of a seventy-five thousand dollar rider to cover the major accidents and ultimate surgeries that a standard health insurance policy will not cover. However, all medical health insurance claims must continue to be submitted to the primary health insurance provider first before the secondary school health insurance policy will even accept any health insurance claims.

The parents will have to be very patient and wait for the billing invoice to be sent to them before submitting any secondary claims. The school health insurance provider will want to see the cost remaining along with any pertinent bills the individual or the parents have received before accepting the health insurance claim form.

School health insurance policies, unlike the standard low cost health insurance policies are at an affordable price to cover the children for the duration of the school year. The average monthly cost for health insurance will fluctuate depending upon the number of health insurance claims submitted during the previous year, but still it remains very affordable.

The school health insurance policy will cover a multitude of physical injuries including transportation via an ambulance. Other coverage will include everything that is included with the standard school health insurance policy.
